CCTV Closed Circuit Television
"The Eye That Never Blinks"
Closed circuit television (CCTV) has been commercially available for over fifty years now and despite the controversy in its use in public places, the installation of surveillance in private property is proven to be an effective deterrent against crime. Installing CCTV in your home may sound like an expensive proposition, but over the past twenty years camera technology has come on in leaps and bounds. Almost every new mobile phone comes with a camera, even cheap £20 PAYG phones, and they take surprisingly good photos. So if you have a tiny camera on your phone for a few pounds, why do you think that CCTV would be out of your price range? Modern CCTV cameras can even operate in total darkness (simply by using infra-red lights, invisible to the human eye), producing evidence quality images all of the time.
One of the reasons that CCTV systems were unsuitable for the home used to be the cost of the recording equipment. The banks of video recorders, shelves and shelves of cassettes, and the poor quality of the imagery stored on magnetic tape were an immediate turn off to anyone looking for home CCTV. But the dawn of digital video means that you can store CCTV footage to a hard disk, even selectively recording only when something is happening or when the system is activated. For long term storage of the recordings you can back up footage to DVD, much smaller and more convenient than tapes.
For excellent protection of your home, you can have you CCTV system integrated with your burglar alarm system. Whenever your burglar alarm system is protecting your home, the CCTV cameras can be activated. If your burglar alarm is monitored remotely (as it should be), any activation of the alarm can be followed up by the monitoring personnel checking on your home by remotely accessing your CCTV cameras. Giving you complete peace of mind.
Remember, your insurance provider will not recognise your home CCTV system if it is not supplied and installed by an accredited installer.
